CARE    &    KEEPING

brass &

silver plate

These metals tarnish with exposure to moisture, so be sure to store them in a dry place - not the bathroom!

To polish them up, wipe down/scrub with a Magic Eraser or any metal polish you might have. My favorite is Brasso, which can be found in most stores. Or a household trick that usually works is just a little dab of toothpaste and water.

copper

Copper will tarnish over time with oxidation or the oils from your skin.

Multi-purpose metal cleaners like Brasso work great, but here is a technique using materials you might already have at home:

Mix table salt into lemon juice to create a paste. For particularly stubborn marks, you can add vinegar to the mixture. Wearing gloves, scrub the copper piece, rinse with water, and pat dry. Avoid skin contact with the copper as it dries.
